192. Rational Thinking and Creative Thinking Both are Necessary……

Thinking is the most unique and valuable mental activity that is bestowed to humans and animals. This is in the sheath called “Manomaya Kosha” of Pancha Koshas. Every action has got the blue print in the thought. There is a difference in the way we humans think and act and the way animals do. Suppose we are hungry we just don’t eat anything available as animals do. The thought process in us takes the help of intellect and judges the pros and cons before consuming anything. This is the process of thinking and it starts with a dilemma and ends in a solution. In total thinking is an adoption of our self to the physical and social environment. There is a false impression that education enhances the capacity to think better, the more you are educated the more capable you are to think. Under educated or Illiterates can never be a good thinkers. These are baseless; in fact modern education system to some extent encourages rational thinking and hence subdues creative thinking. Now what is Rational thinking and Creative thinking?????? Rational thinking is high prospective thinking, whereas creative thinking is low prospective thinking. In the rational thinking type, the thinker selects the most logical solution possible and will get the problem solve in the method in which he is trained. While in creative thinking a person uses any method irrespective of what he is trained and finds a solution. For example, suppose if hard boiled egg is to be sliced into two. Using a knife or a sharp blade to cut it is the most probable and most logical solution. But there are other ways also wherein the result could be achieved even if the conventional objects are not available: for example, one can use a thread. Using of knife is rational thinking while the use of thread is an example of creative thinking. Creative thinking is not and will not be a substitute for rational thinking. Both are necessary. In doing a prototype we have to use creative thinking and generate as much creative solutions as possible and while carrying out the production we have to look in for the feasibility fact by using our rational thinking. Rational thinking is trying to overcome problem by taking it head-on while creative thinking finds for a bypass through a radically different approach. Creative thinking intensifies new ideas while rational thinking helps in smooth discharge of creative idea.
