189. Change Over from “Need” Mantra to “Nama” Mantra…….

The mantra that the mankind has been proficiently uttering even without getting initiation by anybody is the “NEED” Mantra. When it started nobody knows, but it is practiced since long back. No doubt “Need” mantra has given us comforts but it has failed miserably to keep us in the comfort zone forever. Meditation on this “Need” mantra has neither stopped nor will stop unless we become aware that it has failed to provide us Bliss.

Is it bad to concentrate on this “Need” mantra then?????

No, “Need” mantra is like appetizers, it has to be there in the menu, but the main course has to be something else. The “NAMA” mantra is the main course; it is this which is on the menu that is the central point. “Need” mantra has its own limit and to minimize it is Sadhana.

The “Need” mantra has made us look at things in a different perspective. We are accustomed to think that the external objects can provide us happiness, but in reality not even a single item that is outside has put a sign board of assuring happiness to us. The hooks to get entangled to the external objects are not in the object we perceive but it is deeply embedded in us. If the external object could provide us happiness then it should have had the capacity to pull each and every person towards it. But actually what I like is not appreciable by others and vice versa. So the likes and dislikes are in me not in the objects that are away from me.

As the likes and dislikes are continually making a flip flop, the mind certainly gets fatigued and stressed. When the external objects are unable to provide a solution for the unrest of mind we are force to look at some remedies to calm down the tumbling mind. With the failure of “Need” mantra another mantra the “Nama” mantra has to be substituted.

“Nama” mantra has a beneficial effect on the nervous system and hence a great help to clam down our agitated mind. It also provides good health to those who feel spiritually uplifted and derive a sense of peace and equanimity. There are many mantras in Vedas and Upanishads. In fact, the entire Rig, Sama and Yajur Vedas are filled with mantras. Recitation of mantras from Vedas in a certain scale induces reverberations in the body. As it would be difficult for an individual to recite the mantras from Vedas daily it is recommended that Bija mantra or Pranava mantras could serve the purpose.
