157. Don't do to others what you don’t like others to do to you!!

A Circle Inspector (C I) entered a police station and the Police Constable (P C) who was on duty failed to notice him and did not salute him. The CI called him to his chamber and shouted at him, “You have failed to salute me. For this irresponsible act, as a punishment you will have to salute one hundred times.”

At this moment the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) walked into the room.

“What is happening here?” DCP asked the CI, seeing the poor constable about to begin his hundred salutes.

The CI gave the explanation.

“This stupid fellow has no regards to higher officers and he failed to salute me and to punish him for his negligence, I am making him salute one hundred times.”

“Absolutely correct,” replied the DCP to the CI, smiling. “But never forget, CI Sir, that upon each of his salute you have to salute in return.”

"Do not do to others what would anger you if done to you by others".---- ISOCRATES 375 BC.
